June?
Is it June already? I’ve nearly forgotten what it’s like to feel cold. I actually had a list I was going to post of things to see this winter in Chicago from an artist named Allison Warren. (It is from a post card my friend Amanda gave me) I think I succeeded in the majority of them:
- the furry snow blanket keeping the pond warm
- watercolor reflections on slick pavement
- black sky sitting on tall towers
- sleeping streets
- bouquets of red, yellow, orange, and green neon
- skaters lines that etch the ice
- the musical score of black birds in flight
- delicate hairs on a fox fur coat
- the communal fog of misty breath
- red cheeks
There are definitely details about winter that make me smile, but there seems to be many more smiles summer gives. Longer days, thunderstorms, getting wet, sunshine, being outside without wearing 5 layers, I could go on:) My very favorite part is the opportunity to meet new people, and it is particularly easy in a city like Chicago. My joy in life (besides washing dishes) is to interact with the people around me. There’s lots to learn from the most unexpected strangers. So go out and meet someone new! I think you’ll like it.
