Tuesday Morning Panic

This morning started out like any other. I put Tegan down for his nap, checked my email, did some laundry, tidied my room, watched the weather, took out the trash, and that’s where normality ended. The moment I shut the door behind me was the moment I realized it was locked.

I stood there for a second in my pajamas, assessing the situation. I had no keys, no phone, Becky was on an airplane, Ed has a key, but I couldn’t remember his phone number, are the neighbors home? After climbing a fence and knocking on several doors, I finally got my neighbor, Megan to help me. I spent the next hour calling anyone and everyone to find Ed’s phone number.

It’s 11:00. No luck, he’s in a meeting. Locksmith, “25-30 minutes,” is Tegan awake yet? Call the police, fire department, “What’s your address ma’am?” sirens, 3 firefighters, 2 police officers, Fox is barking, big tools, “How old’s the baby?” tears streaming down my face, a window’s pried open and I’m in!

I ran into Tegan’s room and there he was…peeking over the edge of his crib with a huge grin plastered on his face, completely oblivious to everything that had happened the past hour. When he saw me, he giggled. I did too. Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion!
